According to a recent national survey, retail theft is on the rise for the first time in six years. The economic recession has forced countless businesses to cut employees. With less supervision in many retail stores, organized crime has been flourishing. In addition, shoplifting, administrative error, vendor fraud and employee theft rates have increased as a result of the weak economy. The University of Florida conducted this survey, funded by ADT Security Services, found that employee theft was the most prevalent retail crime. Approximately $16 billion was lost last year.
How can America's business owners protect themselves against this epidemic? Utilizing adequate security equipment is a great starting point in preventing retail theft. With security cameras monitoring your employees, customers, and property, you can prevent criminals from taking action (or, you can at least identify them afterward). Alarm system monitoring rates are affordable, and certainly cheaper than losing merchandise. Do yourself a favor and prevent retail theft!
