The Super Bowl, like the other important holidays, often results in a house full of people, tons of food and drink, and lots of kids around. Unfortunately, it’s easy to lose track of safety and home security when we’re caught up in all the fun and festivities. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind this weekend :

Remember that you’ll have extra foot traffic in and out of your kitchen. This means hot surfaces and sharp objects will be exposed to more people than usual, some of them children. Be mindful, and be sure to check the batteries in your ADT monitored security smoke detectors. No time is a good time for a fire, and a houseful of people couldn’t be worse.

If you’re going to be using your fireplace, make sure the screen is securely in place, keep the fire low, and be watchful of the little ones who’ll be drawn to it. Be sure to keep the area free and clear of combustible materials, and make certain the various exits from your house are clear of obstructions. Home security safety tips are important even in the midst of exciting and active celebrations.
