"There should be an option for no stars. I was not happy with it at all. The whole process seemed like a bait-and-switch routine. I was told you would use my existing system and charge me only for the technician's service. When he arrived he informed us that the smoke detectors didn't conform and would have to be replaced for a total of twelve hundred dollars. Furthermore, he didn't hook up the panel at the most important place in the house--the front door--because he said the wiring was wrong. Also, I was not given the ability to control the system remotely--one of the main reasons I chose ADT--and that would cost another $150, a charge I was not informed of when I made my original call. As I no longer live at the house, which is being shown for sale by realtors, this was a big selling point. Now the whole ADT experience is a nightmare. As a magazine editor, I wonder if this is the way security services always work--suck you in with promises and then change the terms--or if this is an ADT specialty. I'm sure it warrants some editorial coverage."
