YourLocalSecurity.com, one of America's leading providers of home security systems donates $50 of every purchase to the Haitian Relief effort

Salt Lake City, UT January 28, 2010 - The stories of heartache, loss, and human suffering coming out of Haiti have been overwhelming the past few weeks as one of the deadliest natural disasters of the past 100 years leaves an entire island country in ruin. Relief has been pouring in from all over the world, but one online company that is in the business of protecting homes and families has decided to donate a significant portion of its profits to help rebuild homes and protect survivors of the devastating earthquake. YourLocalSecurity.com will be donating $50 of every home security system sale towards the efforts of two of the most powerful organizations participating in the effort; Doctors Without Borders and the American Red Cross.

Ted Roxbury, online marketing director at YourLocalSecurity.com was one of the champions of the idea. "My mother-in-law is a nurse and every year she goes with a group of healthcare professionals to impoverished countries to provide basic, and much needed medical treatment." he said, "This year their trip was re-routed to Haiti and there seems to be a solemn sense of urgency and purpose this time around." Doctors Without Borders has been providing international medical humanitarian aid for nearly 4 decades to more than 60 countries where survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe.

Brigg Reilley, an American Epidemiologist working with Doctors Without Borders describes the situation in Haiti.

"While there is always a need for donations to world aid organizations, rarely do we get a chance to participate in hyper time sensitive efforts that hit so close to home." Said another member of the home-security company's marketing team. "It makes us feel even better about the business we're in when we can not only help protect our customers, but help rebuild a country in the process."

Thanks to cutting edge mobile technology, The American Red Cross has set a new standard in fundraising for disaster relief efforts, they raised over $5,000,000 from their text message campaign alone.

YourLocalSecurity.com is donating $25 to both the non-profit organizations ($50 total) for every home security system purchased between February 2, 2010 through February 15, 2010.

Warm up Without Worries: Make Sure Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Fire Alarms Are in Place

SALT LAKE CITY UT- October 14, 2009- As the fall leaves turn and the air chills, people all over head inside, warm the hearth with fires, crank up the heaters and keep the windows closed tight. While it can be a season of warmth and togetherness, it can also be a time of tragedy. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the majority of carbon monoxide poisoning incidents take place in the fall and winter months as gas heaters and furnaces kick on (1). Additionally, fall and winter heating is the second leading cause of residential fires (2). Having a home security system in place can be a real life saver (literally)!

The easiest way to ensure fall is tragedy free is to install carbon monoxide and smoke detectors along with your home alarms throughout the home. People can install them on their own or they can go through a home security company like YourLocalSecurity.com who will not only install the equipment for them, but monitor the home and alert the residents and the authorities should there be fire or carbon monoxide danger.

To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, Security experts recommend families have their heating system, water heater, and any other gas-, oil-, or coal-burning appliances serviced by a qualified technician every year. It's also a good idea for them to replace any detector batteries when they change the time on their clocks each spring and fall. Families should never use a generator, charcoal grill, camp stove, or other gasoline- or charcoal-burning device inside their home, basement, or garage or near a window. They shouldn't ever run a car or truck inside a garage attached to their house- even if they leave the door open. No one should burn anything in a stove or fireplace that is not vented and or try to heat their house with a gas oven. And should a carbon monoxide detector go off, residents should evacuate their home and call 911 immediately.

When protecting a home from fires, residents should keep space heaters at least 3 feet from paper, curtains, furniture, clothing, bedding and anything that can burn. They should also never leave heaters on when they go to bed or leave home. Kids should never handle matches and parents should keep them in a secure place where kids can't get them. Although people may be tempted, they should never leave cooking food unattended and keep handles inward so small children can't grab them and pull them over. It's also a good idea to check all household appliances and make sure they are working properly and their cords are in good condition. And no one should ever leave candles unattended or in a high traffic area where they can be easily knocked over. The installation of quality home security systems and a home alarm are very worthwhile investments.
