Does ADT Monitoring Have Fire Protection?
According to New York State Department of Health, one of the most common home emergencies is a house fire. ADT monitoring offers an advanced fire and smoke detection system that can find threats to your home and safety and contact those who can help before you do.†
How Fire Protection Works
When you have a security system with ADT monitoring, you are presented with a sophisticated smoke and heat detector. If there is a grease fire, excess smoke from your stove or oven, or any other potentially dangerous fire situation, the alarm will sound, notifying everyone in your home and the trained ADT monitoring professionals, whether you are there or not.
When a smoke or fire alarm is triggered in your home, every second counts in terms of contacting emergency professionals who can handle the situation with the least amount of damage or injury. Monitoring the alarms in your home is a dependable staff spread out over six strategically placed monitoring centers across the country. These monitoring centers use advanced and innovative equipment to provide you with a fast response 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When the alarm sounds, no matter the time of day, a monitoring professional will be notified and will contact you. Another way to get in touch is to press the button on either your waterproof wristband or pendant, which will enable you to contact a monitoring professional over the 2-way voice intercom. You can then explain the situation in more detail. He or she will figure out if the alarm is valid, as sometimes these alarms may be triggered by false alarms and non-emergency situations.
The monitoring professional will determine whether you and your family are okay and will send the appropriate emergency responders, such as the fire department, police, or ambulance, if you need assistance. This emergency responder will be dispatched to your home immediately.
Installation and Maintenance
For the most effective results and the best potential protection for your home, smoke alarms must be installed in the correct areas of your home and maintained to ensure their functionality. ADT monitoring suggests having at least one smoke detector on every level of your home, including the attic and basement, and one in each room fires are most likely to start, such as the kitchen or laundry room. The U.S. Fire Administration also recommends installing smoke alarms in all sleeping areas, since many home fires start at night.
If you don’t keep your smoke alarm maintained, you put yourself, your family, and your home at risk. ADT monitoring recommends testing your smoke alarms monthly to ensure there are no problems with them detecting fire or sounding. You should also change the batteries at least once per year or as recommended by your manufacturer’s instructions. Also, "hush" instead of disable your smoke alarm while cooking, even if you may trigger it as a false alarm.
With the proper placement, maintenance, and monitoring provided by ADT monitoring, you can feel safer in your home while helping protect yourself and your family.
† All plans include standard, manually-operated fire panic button on system panel, which must be depressed to alert ADT of smoke or fire. For automatic notification to ADT of smoke, fire or carbon monoxide, a smoke communicator and/or carbon monoxide communicator must be purchased separately.
