Massachusetts is packed with a lot of famous cities, and many of those cities are packed with a population that matches their reputation, like Boston or Cambridge, but this isn't always the case. Tucked away in Middlesex County is a small city named Acton, and the residents know that fanfare isn't always the hallmark of greatness. While it is widely known that Boston had their famous Tea Party, the lesser-known Acton Minutemen were among the first responders to Paul Revere and are said to have led the charge on the North Bridge during the Battle of Lexington and Concord. When asked to take the lead, Captain Isaac Davis replied, "I haven't a man who is afraid to go."

In a way, this spirit has never left Acton, and the city continues to uphold traditions that began with the birth of our nation, like the Open Town Meeting format for local governance. This practice keeps the community close and individuals up to date on what's going on throughout the city. The bottom line is that while Acton isn't in as many movies as Boston, residents have at least as many reasons to celebrate their hometown. And organizations like Money Magazine, the U.S. Department of Education, and U.S. News & World Report agree, all having offered recognition to the city for achievements that include livability and educational quality.
